Italian Classic Lasagna Recipe

12 lasagna noodles
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound bulk Italian pork sausage
1 large onion, chopped
2 can Italian-style peeled tomatoes
2 can tomato paste
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
2 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper
2 eggs
2 carton (16 oz.) ricotta cheese
2 cups (16 oz.) cottage cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
3 teaspoon minced fresh parsley
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1. Cook ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic.
2. Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, garlic, sugar, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, simmer 30 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
3. Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
4. In a large bowl, combine eggs and parsley. Stir in ricotta, cottage and Parmesan cheese.
5. Place noodles in a baking dish. Spread half of cheese mixture over noodles, and top with half of cheese slices. Spoon meat sauce over cheese.
6. Repeat layering (noodles - meat sauce - ricotta cheese mixture - mozzarella cheese) 1 or 2 more times.
7. Bake at 375 F for 35-40 minutes or until top is golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
