First lady Michelle Obama has always been one to speak up about healthy eating, now you can take some tips from the White House in her new 271-page book, "American Grown."

"Just as each seed we plant has the potential to become something extraordinary, so does every child," Mrs. Obama writes in "American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America."

The book, which sells for $30, explains Mrs. Obama's journey to the White House, and her first day of planting the vegetable beds on the South Lawn on March 20, 2009. She had hoped that the garden would stir a national conversation "about the food we eat, the lives we lead, and how all of that affects our children." I think it's safe to say the Mrs. Obama s doing just that.

"American Grown" is divided into four sections base on the seasons. Each section features colorful photos of vegetables (and the first dog, Bo) and recipes for each season.

The book also features garden "horror" stories, like bugs, growing issues and flavorless fruits.

Also featured in the book is a fun personal history of the White House Garden. It turns out Thomas Jefferson was "obsessed with trying to grow a four-foot-long cucumber."

While the book is coming out around the same time as President Obama's re-election campaign, the book is not political, but instead a further step towards a healthy future, something she has been promoting frequently in the media.

The Associated Press lists Mrs. Obama's media appearances for her "Let's Move" campaign. Her impressive TV schedule appearance includes time with Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon and Jay Leno.

Most recently Mrs. Obama took to ABC's "Good Morning America" to talk about "American Grown."

"It turned out exactly as I envisioned," she said during her appearance on Tuesday. "It's a beautiful book, wonderful pictures. It is definitely a passion. Getting the kids in our country to eat healthy. This book is a way too talk about our journey."

"American Grown" is Michelle Obama's first book. The first lady plans on donating all the proceeds from the book to help care for the White House Garden, and to the National Park Foundation, which offers programs to promote gardening and healthy eating.
