1. Seafood Watch - Free

Most Americans aren't eating enough seafood, which is too bad. Our delicious, deep-sea friends are loaded with Omega-3 Fatty Acids that boost our brainpower and keep our noggins on their cranial feet. Eat more fish and stay ethical with Seafood Watch, an app created by the Monterey Bay Aquarium that shows you the most ocean-friendly seafood available to you at your local restaurant or supermarket, depending on your regional location.

Follow Us

It'll give you all the info you need to know about whatever fish you're about to eat, with a focus on environmental concerns like over-fishing. And if something is an unethical choice, they'll give you advice on which fish to pick instead.

As a bonus, there's also a sushi guide with a Japanese-to-English translator (hint: tako sushi is not what it sounds like.)

2. Epicurious - Free

We love Epicurious, a free app that lets the user choose from a massive library of recipes-- recipes that are user-tested and user-reviewed, so you don't have to waste your time with any of the duds. The best part: once you pick a recipe, you can make a shopping list for all the ingredients on it. Cooking at home never felt so easy!

3. Harvest - $1.99

All right, so you have to pay for this one. But that shouldn't stop you from picking up Harvest, which is a supermarket shopper's best friend. Select any produce item from its comprehensive list, and it'll show you how to tell pick the best one from the bunch, how to store the food for longest shelf life, and so much more. We guarantee it'll be the best two bucks you spend in a really long time.

4. FoodGawker - Free

Okay, so after a really big foofaraw, the iPhone can't house any applications geared towards pornography. How lucky for us, then, that FoodGawker snuck on through. This app doesn't have any practical use-- except for maybe stirring your inspiration. It's just beautiful pictures of fantastic food curated by the app editors. After you take a look at the picture, you can decide if you want to click on through to the recipe. But we guarantee you, this app is more likely to get you to eat out than try your hand at producing any of these beautiful marvels on your own.

5. Seamless - Free

Ah, Seamless, you beautiful application, you. For those of us living around major cities nationwide, we need never speak to people on the phone to make an order ever again. All we have to do is move through you-- by taking out our iphone, clicking on what we want to order, and hitting submit, you make ordering food easier than it's ever been. It's arguably maybe too easy, as most people I know burn through their paychecks within days of getting Seamless accounts.

The best part? There are tons of perks through Seamless, like promo codes that take 20% off your orders, and plenty of restaurants that offer you big discounts on your first order from them. There are also great rewards programs for referring your friends ($10 off for every two friends who place their first orders).
