On July 27th, 2012, we've received word that Donald Perry, the vice president of public relations for Chick-fil-A, has died of a heart attack.

The reports came to us fro, The Advocate, which wrote early Friday afternoon that Ross Cathy, brother to Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy. The Atlanta Journal-Consitution reports that the company issues a public statement on Friday shortly after Cathy announced his worker's death. The statement began:

"Don was a member of our Chick-fil-A family for nearly 29 years...For many of you in the media, he was a spokesperson for Chick-fil-A. He was a well-respected and well-liked media executive in the Atlanta and University of Georgia communities and we will miss him."

Though CEO Dan Cathy was the one who made the particularly damning statements about his company's stance on gay marriage, Perry had done his best to undo the damage. In a statement picked up by the L.A. Times last week, Perry stated that the company would remain neutral, contending that "going forward, [Chick-fil-A's] intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena."

Ending his career on a high note, the statement continued: "The Chick-Fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity, and respect-- regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation, or gender."

Though he may not have lived to see how Chick-Fil-A, we hope it continues in the spirit of that last release. Treating everyone with honor and dignity is far from neutral.
