Readers, we're inviting you to a celebration of what the Gotham Sauce Company is calling "the burger's inner perfection." And if you're a vegetarian or a vegan, I'm sure they think that a grilled portobello mushroom is pretty darn perfect, too. (Photo: Kickstarter)

Readers, we're inviting you to a celebration of what the Gotham Sauce Company is calling "the burger's inner perfection." And if you're a vegetarian or a vegan, I'm sure they think that a grilled portobello mushroom is pretty darn perfect, too.

Some Food Kickstarters get us hungry, others get us excited; but it takes a rare food project to do both at the same time. Maybe it's because the end-goal of Gotham Sauce Company's "Top Secret Burger Sauce" Project resonates with us louder than a drunk uncle at a barbecue tailgate.

You probably won't see their burger sauce on a tabletop at a restaurant that boasts the badassity of its burgers anytime soon, but if you're like me, you bring your favorite home condiments with you just in case an eatery falls short. And with few very worthy exceptions, when it comes to burgers, New Yorkers know next to nothing. Maybe it's because this is a city where only the luckiest people get backyards or rooftops to barbecue, but you typically have to pay top dollar to get a burger for which eating isn't a chore.

Or eat McDonald's, and hey, we're not knocking it. For me, if it's not McDonald's, Shake Shack, or the burger at Diner, I'm really not that interested.

And while the quality of the average burger may not change any time soon, if you slather some of their Top Secret Burger Sauce on it, chances are the experience of eating it will.

Anyone who's ever drowned anything in Heinz Ketchup, Frank's Red Hot, or Sriracha knows what we're talking about. A good sauce can make even the most awful foods go down so much better. And while we don't mean for burger joints to lower the bar on their offerings, we mean to say that you won't feel so bad about sinking your teeth into greasy cardboard anymore if you drown that stuff in this secret sauce, inspired by the secret sauces of other burger joints like Burgerville, McDonald's, and Arby's.

Okay, so Arby's isn't technically a burger joint, but that secret sauce of theirs is unreal.

And maybe Gotham should call their new condiment a Not-So Secret Sauce. After all, for the price of $10,000 towards their company, they're willing to part with the recipe. But that's a digression. These two men are aiming to put some well-needed flare back int your burger eating experience, turning it into a culinary affair all across the board.

Pour it on your burger, pour it over your fries, and do everything but share it. If it's as well-balanced as they boast it is, it'll be that good. Check them out here.

They also deserve a reward for having an actually funny Kickstarter promo video, but that's just our two cents.
