The bouncer outside what used to be The Cove would like to remind all heterosexual-seeming people who show up that the former dive bar has been re-imagined as a gay bar. Cue disappointment, bros who think they came all the way to Williamsburg from the Lower East Side for nothing, and girls who shuffle awkwardly and talk amongst themselves about whether or not they should still go in.

This N That, which opened last month on the bustling North Sixth Street strip in Williamsburg (to give you an idea, there's an American Apparel right next to an independently owned hipster clothing store), is run by the same crack team behind the neighborhood's two gay mainstays: Metropolitan and Sugarland. The best part? They didn't even need to build anything. They just saw a bar with sticky floors and so much potential and thought, "Sure, we can make this gay."

"If Metropolitan and Sugarland had a daughter, this would be it," said bar manager Steven McEnrue, whose team insisted on maintaining the look and feel of The Cove--in other words, the guts are still in tact-- instead focusing on the bigger change of tweaking its target audience by making it gay.

That means that there'll be drag queen hosted parties, huge Saturday night rushes, and in a couple of years, the inevitable Michael Cohen type who comes in and makes things annoying for everyone waiting to get inside.

And while the bar is definitely not in its groove just yet, it's starting to accrue a heaping portion of attention from the locals. Why? Transitions from one target demo to another are never terribly sudden, which means that its eclectic crowd matches the hodgepodge promised by the name. And if drinks stay as cheap as they are right now, then you may just see yourself there sometime soon.

Especially when you look at what counts as a dive bar these days.
